I am the Fifth Grade teacher in Burke, SD. I have taught for 34 years. I have been at Burke for 23 of those years. I taught 11 years at Bonesteel before coming to Burke. I have a taught every grade in the elementary except third. Early in my career I also taught elementary physical education and music along with the regular classroom. Another teacher would cover in my classroom while I did the extra curricular. I have seen a vast array of changes in education over the years. The biggest change is the technology used in education of today. Education has always been a challenge, but with technology it has become a bigger challenge to stay ahead of it all and still teach the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic.
I am also a member of the Legion Auxiliary and am co-chairman of Americanism. I make it a part of my teaching to make children aware of their country's background and history. They become patriotic oriented in my class and learn to respect veterans and all elderly citizens as well as our country's symbols. My motto is "Love your country and yourself!"
I am a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Herrick. I am the church organist and have taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Things I enjoy doing when I have time are playing the piano, reading, walking, bike riding, playing cards, and taking care of my flowers.
